Looks like the success and worldwide attention drawn by Icelandair's Hekla Aurora Boeing 757 about one year ago have encouraged Icelandair to come up with a second aircraft celebrating the majesty and splendour of Icelandic nature.

One of the wonders of Iceland, the Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Europe, is now featured on the fuselage of one of Icelandair's Boeing 757s. This livery marks the 80th anniversary of Vatnajökull's  declaration as a National Park.

Icelandair has taken good care to publicize the new Vatnajökull livery, with a dedicated website and an intense social media activity. Which is a good thing, because this livery is a thing of beauty that deserves to be admired.

As it was the case with the Hekla Aurora, the glacier theme is not only present in the outside, but also in the cabin, where LED lights are used to create a blueish ice-like atmosphere, that recreates the shades of light you actually can see on a glacier.

As a curiosity, both the Hekla Aurora and the Vatnajökull Boeing 757s coincided on the tarmac at Seattle Tacoma airport a few days ago, making the local spotters day!

And last but not least, if these beautiful liveries inspire you to travel to Iceland, remember that Icelandar has also its Stopover Buddy programme, that sees members of the staff take stopover passengers with them to discover different aspects of Icelandic nature and culture, for free!
