New podcast episode with Maxime Meijers, founder of Estuaire

In this episode of the podcast we welcome Maxime Meijers, engineer, entrepreneur and founder and CEO of Estuaire, a French startup that is tackling the issue of contrail-generated warming.

As science is improving its understanding of contrail formation and its effects on global warming, this phenomenon is starting to get also more attention from regulators. For example, the European Union has included a mechanism to incentivize contrail avoidance in the latest revision of its ETS (Emission Trading System) framework.

This hasn’t take Estuaire by surprise. This Toulouse-based startup has been working for a number of years in creating a digital platform allows airlines to adjust their flight plans to reduce contrail formation.

Estuaire does so by crunching large amounts of data, from airline operations and metereological sources, and determine which maneuvres will prevent aircraft from leaving contrails in their wake.

Coincidentally, just days after we recorded this podcast, Air France released the results of the pilot test it has been running together with Estuaire in order to best assess the potential of this startup’s technology.
