New podcast episode w/ hypersonics entrepreneur Mikhail Kokorich (Destinus)

Hypersonics are a potentially transformative science. Just imagine traveling from Europe to Australia an back on the same day!

So far, most of the research being done in hypersonics - that is things that fly more than 5 times faster than sound - is being conducted for military uses, but a handful of entrepreneurs, both in America and in Europe, are thinking also about potential civilian applications.

Our guest in this episode, Mikhail Kokorich, is the founder of Destinus, one of the leading players in the very select civilian hypersonics scene.

Based in Switzerland, but with a truly pan-European approach, Destinus has a road map to get there and is backing its thoughts with actions, starting with the testing of some small scale (and stll subsonic) prototypes. If all goes well, in the coming months Destinus will also start testing its hydrogen propulsion system and, from there, the sky is the limit!

That’s not to say that the challenges ahead are formidable and, as Mikhail states clearly, any commercial applications are likely to be preceded by military ones. Nevertheless, the wheels are in motion for hypersonic commercial flight to become, perhaps, one day a reality.

When? That’s hard to tell, but listen to the episode to get a good grasp of where things are going!
