The Allplane Podcast #22 - A record-setting electric flight, with Morell Westermann & Malik Aziz
A group of electric mobility enthusiasts. A state of the art electric aircraft. A route and a goal.
Those were the ingredients of the recent record-breaking electric flight “From the Alps to the North Sea”, that over the course of two and half days took an all-electric Pipistrel light aircraft all the way from Switzerland to the German island of Norderney, in the North Sea.
On this episode of the podcast, two of the organizers of that flight, share the details and the backstory of this project.
Morell Westermann is a consultant and keynote speaker based in Switzerland, who focuses on new technologies and the decarbonization of transportation and the economy, while Malik Aziz is a German media producer and open-source software advocate who, among other things, happens to run also the most popular podcast about electric mobility in the German-speaking world.
The five different records that this project achieved are, of course, attention-grabbing, but, as both Morell and Malik highlight, the real value of this flight is in raising awareness about the possibilities of zero-carbon flight and also, the remarkable way in which it galvanised and served as a rallying point for the growing electric mobility community in Europe.
Listen to this fascinating story of team work that has captured the imagination of the public and media throughout Europe and the world.
