The disappearing A340: what happens to aircraft when they retire?
Thanks to the Athens Airport Blog I came across this time-lapse video of an ex-Olympic Airways Airbus A340 being dismantled (SX-DFA (c/n 235) to be exact)
In fact, few places could be as fascinating for avgeeks as aircraft boneyards, those places where aircraft that are no longer needed are kept (often never to fly again). The most famous ones are possibly in the deserts of the South-Western US, such as the one you can see on the following video:
But aircraft are also scrapped in Britain, like this Boeing 747, being cut to pieces in a scrapyard of the Cotswolds, England.
For those interested in abandoned aicraft, this blog has a list of the best places to find them!
