On CNN: the French château which keeps 100 fighter jets
When I heard about this place’s existence, I pretty much started to plan a visit.
Château Savigny was built in the 14th C. It would be just one more of the many châteaus and fortresses that dot Burgundy, a historical region of France with a rich heritage, was it not for the incredible collections it houses.
Perhaps the most eye-catching of all, and likely the one of most interest to the readers of this site, is the aircraft one.
The current owners of the château have been collecting old fighter jets all over the world for the last forty years.
French Mirages, Soviet-built MiGs and American-made fighters such as the F-16 and F-104 are found all over the place in the grounds of the château, nested next to the estate’s vineyards and alongside other interesting collections, such as those of fire trucks, Abarth cars, or aircraft scale models.
In this CNN article I explain the origins and make-up of this amazing and unusual aviation museum located in the heart of rural France.
