Wright Electric, EVE's listing & more (The Allplane Newsletter #72)

After a bit of a festive hiatus, this newsletter is back with the latest aviation news that have caught our attention and, as always, paying particular attention to the buzzing world of green aviation…

Let’s hope that 2022 brings plenty of interesting and positive aviation stories!

New on the podcast

Jeff Engler, founder of Wright Electric, shares some details of this ambitious electric airliner project that aims at the mid-sized aircraft market.

Sustainable Aviation

Eviation’s Alice completed taxi tests right before the end of the year.

Bristow, a British company with a large helicopter operation servicing the North Sea oil and gas industry, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Overair. This is not the first deal in the eVTOL space for Bristow.

Also in the second half of December, Archer’s Maker completed its first hover test.

A bit of old news by now, since it has been amply reported, but Embraer’s EVE is listing on NYSE, also via SPAC, like other eVTOL developers before it.

The listing of EVE was announced pretty much at the same time than a whole raft of new tentative deals (although non-binding yet), with the likes of SkyWest and Republic Airways, potentially for 100s of eVTOLs.

Denmark wants to make all domestic flights fossil free by 2030. Good, although before you get too excited, bear in mind that the domestic market in Denmark is pretty small, I would be surprised if there were more than a couple of (very short) routes (not sure whether flights to the overseas territories of Greenland and the Faroes, which enjoy a large degree of political autonomy, are also included).

Some more info on the “Eurasian SAF Alliance” project. Looks like Russia is also jumping onto the sustainable aviation fuel bandwagon. How big this can be?

What else in aviation?

New flight review: how is it like to fly S7 Airlines economy class on A321neo

Like every new year, some updating and pruning of the 2021 new airlines and airline bankruptcy list.

And also a shiny brand new list of new airlines launched in 2022 (feel free to send your tips and suggestions!).
