Bye Aerospace moves forward with eFlyer 2
On the same day, and pretty much at the exact same time, I was writing about the plans Nordic flight academy OSM Aviation has to add 60 eFlyer 2 electric aircraft to its training fleet, I received the press note from Bye Aerospace announcing it is starting production of the eFlyer 2. Call it a coincidence!
Colorado-based Bye Aerospace (which, I discover, is named after a founder!) has contracted a company called Composites Universal Group to build the eFlyer 2 airframes, the first three of which are going to be used to complete the FAA (part 23) certification process.
Not sure how long this process will take. In a recent conversation, a representative from OSM Aviation told me they were expecting to get the first electric aircraft towards the end of this year, not sure how realistic this calendar is.
If the claim that these light electric aircraft are five times cheaper to operate than conventional ones, it is just a matter of time since a whole new generation of pilots is trained in electric aircraft, , and not just in environmentally conscious Scandinavia,.
