This is, perhaps, one of best airline museums you have never heard about…

And, admittedly, aptly named Longreach, is a bit out of the way, in the outback of Queensland, Australia, some 10 hours drive from Brisbane…but this is exactly where one of the world’s most iconic airlines got started.

We are talking about Qantas, of course, and, although the Qantas Founders and Outback Museum is not formally part of the airline, it keeps close links with the airline whose heritage is dedicated to preserving.

A Boeing 747, a Boeing 707, a recently-restored Lockheed Super Constellation, plus some of the earliest aircraft models flown by Qantas and other historical artifacts, including an original 1920s hangar used in the early days of the airline…all of this awaits visitors that make the trek to Longreach.

2020 is also a special year for all those interested in the history of the Australian airline, since it is turning 100! So, I made a call across 12 time zones to reach out to Nicole Kuttner, communications manager at the Qantas Founders Museum, in order to learn more about it and about the different ways in which they are marking this very special anniversary.
