Vilnius airport becomes a drive-in cinema
With most commercial aircraft grounded for an indefinite period of time, operators in the aviation industry have been stretching their imagination to find alternative uses for their assets.
A lot has been said (including on this site, see here and here) about the special missions, such as repatriation and cargo flights, flown by a number of airliners.
Tons of new audiovisual content have also been produced during the lockdown, with many industry forums moving online, or industry experts sharing insights via videoconference.
Vilnius airport has found another angle to content distribution and has turned its facilities into a large drive-thru open-air cinema.
By opening up its facilities and using a giant screen on the side of one of the terminal buildings, the Lithuanian airport operator and the Vilnius Film Festival (that has organized the drive-in cinema sessions) found a form of entertainment that suits these times of social distancing and adds the experiential element of being able to drive your own car through part of the airport apron.
