Last week was quite prolific when it comes to creative airline safety videos coming out of the Southern Hemisphere (if you haven’t seen Qantas safety video celebrating its centenary, do it now!), a truly regional speciality.

But, New Zealand is not only known for its safety videos. Its majestic nature and unique biodiversity are also noteworthy!

The takahē bird, a highly endangered flightless bird, is one of the precious jewels of New Zealand’s fauna and the object of the airline’s latest safety video (it’s 20th since it pioneered the genre just a few years ago).

On the video, and through the story of a girl that helps a lost takahē get back home, Air New Zealand highlights its commitment to supporting the country’s Department for Conservation (DOC). This cooperation has seen Air New Zealand helping elocate over 3,200 animals of threatened species, among them 180 takahē, to wildlife sanctuaries were they can be safely preserved.

As always, enjoy the video!
