Embraer spins off UAM arm Eve

No major aerospace OEM can afford to stay out of the urban air mobility (UAM) and eVTOL race.

Although it’s been a bit quite for a while, Embraer just officially spun-off Eve, and publicly presented it as a separate company (although, of course, still within the Embraer group)

Eve has been part of the EmbraerX innovation programme, which is partner of Uber Elevate (the UAM solutions arm of the famous American mobility company) the last few years.

By spinning Eve off and giving an entity of its own, Embraer aims to give it enough autonomy to cultivate the sort of “start-upish” environment that is required in this sort of forward-thinking fast-moving space. Its CEO is going to be André Stein, former head of strategy for EmbraerX.

Among the priority tasks for Eve is no less than the roll out and certification of the Embraer’s first eVTOL vehicle and, while not many details of the status of this project are yet known, one thing is for sure: if there’s one market where UAM’s can make it big is that of Brazil’s major cities, which already boast some of the largest fleets of private helicopters for urban use in the world!
