Norwegian links Barcelona to 4 US destinations
The announcement had been awaited for quite some time, what has been quite a surprise is the scope of Norwegian's new long-haul operation out of Barcelona.
At a press conference today, Norwegian's CEO Bjorn Kos has confirmed that direct long-haul flights to the US will be launched from Barcelona airport in June 2017.
Newark (x4 weekly), Los Angeles (x3 w), Oakland (for San Francisco) (x3 w) and Fort Lauderdale (for Miami) (x2 w) are the four US gateways that will be reached by Norwegian's new Boeing 787 Dreamliners, two of which will be based at Barcelona's El Prat airport.
Norwegian will be competing with Delta (JFK) and United (EWR) on the New York route and American Airlines (MIA) on the Florida one. There are currently no direct flights between Barcelona and California, so the new routes will surely be very welcome by the emerging technology and creative community in the Catalan capital.
