On CNN: a 70-year old Douglas C-47 brought in from the Siberian tundra

This is  quite story...it had been aired by Russian media, but had got little echo in the English-language press...until I got it published on CNN.

In 1947 an American-made Douglas C-47 made an emergency landing in a remote area of the Siberian tundra, hundreds of miles from the closest human settlement. I won't add any spoilers here, but basically, some dramatic events unfolded next.

This year, almost 70 years from that moment, the Russian Geographical Society organized an expedition to salvage what remained of the aircraft, that was found in a surprinsingly good state of preservation.

It will soon be exhibited in a museum in Kraasnoyark, Siberia.
