Turkish Airlines, Periscope pioneer

Remarkable social media initiative by Turkish Airlines, that has just pioneered (as far as I am aware of!) the use of mobile live video app Periscope to broadcast an Istanbul to New York flight.

The broadcast, that was viewed, on aggregate, by an audience of tens of thousands started with the crew's preparation before the flight and then continued while on flight, taking advantage of in-flight wi-fi, and then followed the crew after it disembarked and made it to New York City and enjoyed their free time in towm.

What's more, Turkish Airlines has released some stats from this social media experiment: the airline gained 5,118 new followers and collected 292,779 likes. Promoted twits were also used to broaden the reach of the broadcast.

Overall, quite an interesting initiative that I am sure other airlines will emulate soon!
