Flight Review: LATAM Airlines Premium Business B777-300ER

Flight#: LA8115

From: Barcelona-El Prat (BCN)

To: Sao Paulo - Guarulhos (GRU)

Flight time: 11h

Aircraft: Boeing 777-300ER

LATAM is an airline that had long been on my list to try and the recent IATA AGM, which took place in Rio de Janeiro, finally provided with an opportunity to experience in several ways.

This flight review covers the long-haul flight to Brazil on LATAM’s B777-300ER business class, which the airline calls “Premium Business”. In separate flight reviews I will cover the return flight on LATAM’s B787-9 and the experience on the ground using the lounge at the carrier’s Sao Paulo Guarulhos hub, as well as a the narrow-body economy class experience on a domestic flight within Brazil.

Please note that LATAM Airlines is in the middle of a US$360 million program to upgrade its cabin experience across all service classes, so some aspects of the experience, such as the upcoming availability of internet on long-haul flights, may change in the near future.

The flight were courtesy of LATAM Airlines. All opinons are my own.

The Pre-flight Experience

LATAM does not run its own lounge at Barcelona airport, so passengers on Premium Business can use the “Sala VIP Joan Miró”, which is the lounge for all flights to destinations outside the Schengen area at Barcelona airport.

Even if it is run by another party (in this case, Spanish airport operator AENA), I thought I would share a couple of pictures of the lounge since it is part of the experience (you will need to check my LATAM Airlines B787-9 flight review to see how lounge in Sao Paulo looks like, that one exclusive to the airline).

Cabin and Amenities

The first impression when coming onboard was really good. LATAM operates its B777-300ER in a 1-2-1 layout with Thompson Vantage XL hard-shell, lie-flat seats. The current Premium Business cabin was introduced in 2019, so it is a relatively new product and it shows!

One of the things that immediately catches your eye is that the blanket and pillow pack is absolutely massive. On top of that, you are also provided with this sort of soft mattress cover that you can attach easily to your seat. I realized most passengers did it straightaway without waiting to the sleeping time, so I did it as well. I provides an extra layer of softness.

By the way, the central seats do not have a divider going the whole lenght of the seat, but they do provide a pretty good degree of privacy since there is so much space between you and your neighbour. Notice the surface with marble-like top on the left side. I assure you that is absolutely massive! (and your neighbour has another one on his side)

I also found the foot well quite spacious and, what’s more, surprisingly soft, since it is upholstered with some leather-like material. You are also provided with a pair of really soft slippers (and as we shall soon seen, a pair of socks), so you can really make yourself comfortable.

Inflight Entertainment (IFE)

Another really positive suprise was the quality and breadth of the content found on LATAM’s IFE platform, which is called “LATAM Play”.

Through the 18” Panasonic screen you can access a really broad portfolio of movies, series and other content (music, games, etc.) in addition to the moving map (provided by Flightpath 3D). The screen was really responsive to touch, although there is also a control console in a small compartment on the side of the seat (this is conveniently secured by a lid, so you don’t accidentally activate the screen, as it happens on some airlines that have it too close to the actual seat).

Premium Business passengers also get this pair of noise-cancelling headphones to enjoy the IFE system.

The one thing that this aircraft didn’t have is internet connectivity, but this may soon change, since LATAM is investing US$60M to roll out ViaSat internet across its long-haul fleet (interestingly and as I will show in my LATAM A321 review, it does already offer internet onboard its narrow-body fleet).

Amenity Kit

The amenity kit on LATAM’s Premium Business encapsulates, actually, a nice story-telling element. In December 2025, LATAM introduced a refreshed onboard service protocol which included the distribution of a new collection of multi-colour amenity kits which are inspired in different iconic places of Latin America (keep scrolling to find out how exactly)

As you can see below, without getting too extravagant, the contents of the kit cover all the basics. The eye-mask, the socks and the toothbrush, which are the ones that I really tried, are actually of pretty good quality.

As mentioned earlier, the chromatic combinations found in the amenity kit are all inspired by iconic Latin American landscapes. This is why you are offered a choice of different colours when the crew hands out the amenity kits. The one you see here is inspired by the Vincunca, the reddish and ocre tones of this high mountain in the Peruvian Andes.

Another small detail that I would like to point out, because it is less eye-catchy than the amenity kit, but has also some practical importance is that there are several pockets and compartments where you can leave your stuff. Also, the space between your side table and the wall of the seat in front of you leaves a wide enough gap to stuff the blanket and pillows. There is also a compartment on the side where you can leave your shoes if you change to the slippers.

And, last but not least, here is the control panel for the seat, where you can see the different positions. Pretty straightforward. The seat converts, of course, into a full flat bed and I can happily report that I managed to sleep quite a few hours in one go. It is pretty spacious.

Food and Drink

This flight departed Barcelona at 1pm and arrived in Sao Paulo in the evening, both times local. So, there was time to serve two full meals: lunch shortly after take off and dinner right before arrival.

In the meantime, we got the welcome drink (a choice of champagne and several soft drinks and juices) and some nuts.

In the pictures below you can get an idea of the sort of options we were offered for lunch and dinner.

Food onboard is also one of the areas which were subject to a thorough refresh in late 2025, so LATAM has been collaborating with young Latin American chefs to design the menus and the wine lists, which, in line with the same theme, come also from different parts of South America. A nice detail is that each dish is paired with a wine suggestion.

Note also that Premium Business passengers have also the possibility of getting “Express Service”, that is getting the meal off-hours upon demand (although didn’t see anyone using it).

You can also order from a selection of cocktails.

Next you can get a glimpse of the lunch, with the starter (smoked tuna and a salad) first.

Next came the orange-marinated roasted chicken with rice and roasted vegetables

And ending with a serving of ice-cream and cofee (which is served on a really stylish tray).

Overall I would say the dessert was the weaker part, since options were a bit limited and not “unique” to the experience (Häagen-Dasz ice-cream is, however, always amazing!). The meats, whether chicken or beef, were excellent, not just on this particular meal, but throughout the whole journey, including the return trip.

For dinner we followed the same three-course pattern, with a similar composition too. This time the starter was tuna “ventresca” rather than smoked, served together with a salad, as well.

The main course was a really thick and solid piece of beef. I was actually hesitant to order this, because I would only eat it if it is really well done, but I can say that my fears were unwarranted, since it was perfectly cooked (which is difficult with cuts of this size). The best meat I have had on a flight in quite a long time! (not for nothing LATAM is based in countries in which meat eating culture runs deep!)

Dessert was, again, a Häagen-Daasz serving, always a safe bet!

By the way, I did also order a cocktail before landing, so that I could check that part of the offering too, here is the Negroni that I was served.

Our Take:

LATAM’s Premium Business is a very solid product and, to be honest, I am surprised it is not talked about that much (compared to those of other major airlines). In my writings I had covered some of the airline’s initiatives to strengthen the passenger experience that it offers, but being able to experience it first hand left actually a very positive impression on me.

I can say it surpassed my expectations, and the upcoming rollout of wifi connectivity will only make it better.
