Flight Review: Lufthansa Economy Class A320-200

Flight#: LH1819

From: Barcelona (BCN)

To: Munich (MUC)

Flight time: 2h

Aircraft: Airbus A320-200

The trip to Munich to see from up close Lufthansa’s new Allegris Cabin (albeit installed on a different aircraft!) provided the opportunity to try out the Economy Class product the German carrier offers on its European network workhorse, the Airbus A320-200.

This time it was on economy class, but if you wish to see how is it like at the front of the cabin, you can check the flight review of Lufthansa’s Business Class on this same aircraft type.

The flight was provided courtesy of Lufrthansa. Opinions expressed on this flight report are all my own.

The experience

Lufthansa operates its A320-200 fleet in a two-class configuration and a relatively large business class cabin with up to 28 seats.

This leaves the economy class cabin with either 126 or 138 seats, depending on the configuration, a relatively not-too dense set up if you are used to fly LCCs across Europe.

The cabin has a rather elegant look with Lufthansa’s grey leather upholstered (non-reclinable) slim seats and pretty tidy overall.

Here you can get a glimpse of the economy class cabin onboard a pretty full Lufthansa A320-200.

Seat pitch is a pretty decent 30’. As you can see here, there is a rigid literature pocket on the upper part of the back of the seat and a small net-type one at the bottom.

Lufthansa provides drinks and a chocolate in this type of short European flights on economy class. If you wish something more substantious, you would need to pay extra for it.

There were two items in the seat’s literature pocket: a menu (didn’t order anything knowing that an abundant breakfast was awaiting just on arrival) and a shopping catalogue (somehow didn’t feel like buying a vacuum cleaner at 8.48am on my way to Munich!).

There are different tiers of internet access. You can get to use simple messaging apps like Whatsapp for free, but if you wish some more broadband, for example to send emails or to browse websites, you would need to upgrade.

The prices didn’t seem particularly high compared to other offerings I’ve seen out there!

Regardless of whether I get full or partial internet access inflight or not, one of the things that I personally have come to appreciate is the availability nowadays on most flights of free flight trackers.

The review would not be complete without a quick snap of the state of the toilet.

Alles Gut!

Our Take:

Solid if nit particularly exciting economy class product. Having free messaging is nice. No sandwich or snack, though, just a chocolate and a coffee or water. The seat is quite similar to the ones you find on LCCs, just that with a more generous seat pitch.
