The new northern Icelandic airline, Niceair - latest on The Points Guy
Iceland has experienced a major tourist boom in the last decade. But, while visitor numbers have multiplied by a factor of five and locals complain about overtourism in some areas, most of the country remains relatively little explored.
80% of visitors to Iceland stay within easy reach of the capital, Reykjavik, and its international airport, Keflavik, but this is just a relatively small portion of an island that is the size of Oregon.
The 50,000 inhabitants of northern Iceland and European visitors in search of new horizons and landscapes will soon be able to bypass the main air hub at Reykjavik, because a new startup airline, Niceair, is planning to start nonstop services from the northern Icelandic city of Akureyri to several European destinations.
