Green Africa shows you how aircraft liveries are designed

Green aviation is a focus topic of this site and, yet, despite its title today’s post does not have an obvious environmental angle.

Green Africa Airways, is, in fact, the name of a new carrier in Nigeria (->you can check the list of new airlines in 2021 here).

This is a very interesting airline startup project, mainly, because Nigeria seems to be a really difficult market to crack for airlines to crack. It is quite remarkable how no airline project of a decent size has managed to get off the ground in Nigeria, despite this being a hugely populous country with a large territory. Will Green Africa Airways succeed where even Richard Branson had to give up?

In this context, Green Africa Airways’ plans stand out because of their scale and ambition: it has 166 aircraft on order, of which 100 Boeing 737 MAX 8, plus 53 Airbus A220s and 13 ATR-72s.

It is actually two of the latter that have become the first two aircraft in Green Africa’s fleet. The arrival of the first pair of ATR-72s has also provided Green Africa’s team with an opportunity to share some more details of this new Nigerian airline.

As part of its roll out marketing activities, Green Africa has shared an interesting video about the way its aircraft liveries are designed and painted.

The topic of aircraft paint is an interesting one. Last year I had the chance to write an overview for CNN about how commercial aircraft are painted, but this Green Africa video provides some additional visual insights into one of the parts of the process that I did not dig too much into, that is the design stage and the elaboration of blueprints.

So, enjoy the video and, if interested in African aviation, do not miss also the podcast episode we did about this topic with Johannesburg-based aviation consultant, Tendi Mutandagayi!
