Airlines in Iberia’s orbit have given away 100,000 tickets (in fact, 50,000 return tickets, of which 25,000 correspond to Iberia, Iberia Express and Air Nostrum and another 25,000 to Vueling) to Spanish health and care home professionals. This is a very tangible form of recognition for the hard work and dedication of this professional collective during this pandemic, that has hit Spain particularly hard.

The “Thank you, heroes” initiative includes both domestic flights within Spain and flights between Spain and other European destinations, all sectors must be flown between 22nd June and 30th September. Airport operator Aena has joined in as well, waiving airport charges on those tickets.

The initiative operated on a first come first served basis and the success: all 100,000 tickets have been allocated in under three hours since the moment Iberia has opened the request form. At some point the system was handling 350 simultaneous requests and over 150,000 visitors.

From 15 June onwards, Iberia will be contacting one by one all those that have been allocated tickets in order to provide the corresponding vouchers.
