Qantas heritage celebrated in poster exhibition
Few airlines in the World as iconic as Qantas. Not for nothing is one of the oldest airlines in the World in continuous existence and the third one, after KLM and Avianca to turn 100 (later this year!)
What I didn’t know is that Qantas had an alpha-numeric font called “Cyclone” created on purpose for its corporate image. This was the creation, in 1970, of designer Harry Rogers.
And why I am writing about this just now?
Because the Qantas Founders Museum is kicking off the Qantas centenary celebrations with the first event of the year: an exhibition about the work Harry Rogers did for the Australian airline.
This was not limited to creating fonts, in fact, for many visitors one of the most interesting aspects of this exhibition will be the chance to see some really cool Qantas travel posters.
Those interested in the Qantas Founders Museum (which is located in, aptly named, Longreach, in the outback of Qantas native state of Queensland) will find more information , including the story of the museums latest acquisition, a Lockheed Super Constellation airliner, in this piece I wrote for CNN about the best airline museums in the world.
In case you happen to be anywhere near Longreach, Queensland, the exhibition inaugural event (free to attend) will be at 10.30am this Friday, 7h Feb. 2020 and will remain open until the 30th of April
