Austrian Airlines unveils 1980s retrojet
One of the first airline commercials of which I have memory is one that Austrian Airlines placed on (if I remember it correctly) TIME magazine in the early 90s. The Iron Curtain had just fallen and Austrian pitched its regional expertise, with what was, at the time, the most comprehensive route network in Eastern Europe.
At the time, Austrian airlines used a simple but memorable red arrow logo, very clearly imprinted on the white livery. The tail was painted in Austria’s national flag colours.
Although, in its essence, this scheme has been more or less preserved to this day, I can not avoid thinking the current livery, more stylized and with some “shadow” effects, lacks the force and memorability of the old one.
But, even if it is just in a limited way, Austrian is bringing back its 1980s livery with an Airbus retrojet.
