Video: Dutch F-16s welcome KLM Oranje Boeing 777
KLM made a concession with the colour of one of its Boeing 777s this summer - change its traditional blue for the "national" orange - but for a good reason: supporting Dutch athletes at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic and Paralympic games.
We covered the painting and presentation of this Oranje KLM Boeing 777 here)
It was actually quite a successful flight for the Dutch athletes, that bagged a good number of medals an impressive performance when adjusted by the country's population size!
A total of 19 medals (8 golds, 7 silvers and 4 bronzes), that places the Netherlands inn the 11th position of the medal ranking (in my opinion, a dubious methodology, since it only takes into account gold medals, but this is another matter!).
In the Paralympic Games, the Netherlands did even better, getting to the 7th position in the ranking, with 62 medals (17 golds, 19 silvers and 26 bronzes).
And it is precisely the Dutch Paralympic athletes that got this spectacular reception while returning to Holland in the KLM Oranje Boeing 777: in the video you can see how Royal Dutch Air Force F-16 greeted them in the last miles of their approach to Amsterdam Schiphol.
An amazing video that includes also sound from the aircraft communications.
By the way, not the first time that KLM airliners fly leisurely in the company of Dutch F-16s!
